As someone with relatives from out of town, I have found that my go-to gift idea for the holidays tends to be some sort of Chicago-themed souvenir or trinket for the majority of my extended family members. I’ve never really had a one-stop shopping spot, but rather have periodically purchased random things I find throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas.
I recently hit the jackpot while browsing in Andersonville at a little store called The Haymaker Shop
. Located on Clark, Haymaker is a treasure trove of locally crafted housewares that make for perfect gifts (especially for out-of-towners who love anything from the Windy City). In one visit I managed to find something for 80 percent of the people on my Christmas shopping list. They carry everything from handmade furniture to kitchen wares and artwork. The place is super quaint and is fun to check out, even if you’re looking to browse. They also carry locally made custom furniture, so if you’re looking for an end table to fit into a certain space, or a one-of-a-kind rocking chair, the wood artists who supply Haymaker are incredibly talented and specialize in building made-to-order items, whatever your needs may be.
If you’re like me and unsure of your shopping list for stocking stuffers, I would highly recommend checking this place out. You’ll be sure to find a handful of gifts you can’t find anywhere else, and certainly something for yourself!
